Find Lost Superannuation Due to a high frequency of Australians changing jobs and moving residence, they often lose the track of their superannuation money, and in some instances, large sums of money are left uncollected and unclaimed with the Australian Taxation Office. The estimated figure on the lost superannuation moneys in Australia, is over $6.8 billion, and chances are you might be one of the 3.2 million Australians with a lost super problem. How is this possible? Have you changed your address and advised your super fund about your new address? If you haven't advised your superannuation provider about your new address, you might be a "lost" member. If your superannuation fund administrator hasn't been able to contact you, your first step in finding your lost super account, should be a call to your current super fund administrator. Free of Charge Ways to Find Your Lost Superannuation Online If you have superannuation from a previous employer, or employers, and you are not sure where it is now, or who is holding it, your name might be on the Australian Taxation Office's (ATO) Lost Members Register (LMR) called SuperSeeker. SuperSeeker is an online free tool, that will look for your lost superannuation accounts in real time and instantly provide you with the possible matches. What information do I need to provide when using SuperSeeker? By entering personal details such as Tax File Number (TFN), Name and Date of birth into SuperSeeker, you'll be able to check:
* The ATO's Lost Members Register is c a central register of lost superannuation fund members and Retirement Savings Account (RSA) holders. ** The ATO's Superannuation Holding Accounts Reserve is a collection system established to receive small superannuation amounts from employers who cannot find a superannuation fund or Retirement Savings Account (RSA) which accepts small amounts and offers member protection. *** Superannuation Guarantee is the required amount of superannuation support that your employer must provide for you and their other eligible employees. They should pay your superannuation contributions into a superannuation fund or retirement savings account (RSA) which meets the government rules. Another place where you can look for your lost super, free of charge, is AUSfund (Australia's Unclaimed Super Fund). AUSfund is an Eligible Rollover Fund (ERF). Superannuation Trustees are allowed to transfer small, lost and inactive superannuation accounts to AUSfund without members' prior consent. Your previous superannuation fund could have chosen AUSfund as its ERF and rolled your account into AUSfund when they were either unable to contact you, you had a small account balance or were no longer receiving any contributions into your account with them. AUSfund also accepts accounts from super funds that are closing down. To visit the AUSfund and look for your super CLICK HERE.
